The Boston Red Sox outfield has been a topic of discussion all season. Between Roman Anthony, Wilyer Abreu, Masataka Yoshida, Ceddanne Rafaela and Jarren Duran, many experts predicted them to trade someone to upgrade elsewhere.

Duran was the name most common in trade rumors. However, according to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, the Red Sox refused to include Duran or Abreu in a potential deal for Joe Ryan. In the end, despite all of the rumors, Duran will stay in Boston for the rest of the year.

Duran was not blind to the rumors surrounding him. He spoke on the team’s decision not to trade him or Abreu at the deadline.

“The way I take it is he has faith in us,” Duran said of Craig Breslow, per The Athletic’s Jen McCaffrey. “We’re a really good offense to him. We’re relentless, and I feel like that’s kind of our thing. We’ve been doing a lot this year, have come from behind and having late-game wins. I’m just really proud of this group.”

Duran and Abreu were the only real trade candidates from the outfield. Rafaela has already signed an extension and Anthony was the top prospect in baseball, so the team is not going to move him. Yoshida has little trade value and his contract would have been hard to move.

Duran has less club control than Abreu and started the year off slowly. He was an All-Star last year, but he has gotten hot at the plate, showing why teams were interested in him. He had a .317 average and 1.093 OPS in July.
