Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes Reveals ‘Worried’ Thoughts On Emotional Finish

he Kansas City Chiefs kept their undefeated streak going another week with a heart-stopping 16-14 win over the Denver Broncos at Arrowhead Stadium. We have seen the offense or defense make a play this season to secure the win for the defending champs, but against the Broncos, the special teams unit stepped up. With Bo Nix and the Broncos driving well into Chiefs territory, kicker Will Lutz was up to hand Kansas City its first loss of the season, but his attempt was blocked, meaning the 1972 Miami Dolphins have to anxiously wait another week to see who can hand Andy Reid’s team its first loss of the season.

For Patrick Mahomes, who was a bystander on the final play, he revealed his thoughts watching the special teams unit go out and do their thing. “You definitely are [worried] because it’s just a low percentage for a block,” Mahomes said. “But if anyone’s going to do it, I mean Toub [Dave Toub, special teams coordinator] and his team’s going to have a play a design rush or design way to get a hand on it. So you’re obviously worried because it’s out of your control but at the same time, I have trust in my teammates that they’re going to go out there and make a play.”

As has been the case this season, the Chiefs weren’t at their best, but when the time came to make a play, the special teams unit did. While the defense only gave up 14 points, it is rather unfathomable that a Mahomes-led offense was seconds away from losing, with the unit putting up 300 total yards and only 57 on the ground.

But as the Chiefs do, they just find ways to keep winning, and of course, it will catch up with them eventually. However, until it does, that undefeated season remains a possibility due to this team’s knack for knowing how to win.
