Fun is back in vogue for the Dallas Cowboys under Brian Schottenheimer, with the first-year head coach bringing an energy and enthusiasm that is contagious throughout the entire franchise.
From the first day of the offseason, it has been a noticeable difference with Schottenheimer and his coaching staff bringing the good vibes and allowing the players to be themselves.
Not to say that Mike McCarthy didn’t, but there is a big shift in the vibe around the building and even on the practice field with Schotty making sure that before every practice in Oxnard, he high-fives every player, and I mean every player.
With Dallas now three days into training camp at Oxnard, again, the vibes, energy, and enthusiasm are off the charts, and for Dak Prescott, when asked to give his thoughts on the offense, his answer came easily.
“Tons of fun,” Prescott said. “Already having fun, nothing’s better than this game of football. There’s been different years, different times it can get tougher and you can sometimes forget that, but keeping that at the forefront of your mind to have fun. I think is what leads it. Shotty is a guy who has fun.
“We’re going to compete our ass off, but we have fun. I think with that, what having fun is allowing everyone to be themselves. That’s what we encourage. Schotty does a great job of leading this group, leading this team and leading this offense to make sure that we’re doing that and allowing guys to be themselves in every aspect.”
Training camp has had a different vibe than previous seasons, and yes, we get it, it’s early, but there can be no denying the impact Schottenheimer is having on this team.
Granted, we haven’t seen true adversity like a three-game losing streak yet, but until something like that happens, we can only comment on what we see, and it’s everyone enjoying their football.
As the saying goes, “When you love what you’re doing, you’ll never work a day in your life,” and while the training camp grind is a real thing, for the Cowboys, fun trumps everything.
And right now, the good vibes are flowing in Oxnard, with Schotty leading the way.
