White Sox Minor League Update: July 24, 2025

Charlotte Knights 2, Nashville Sounds 0 (Statcast box)
Both offenses rode the struggle bus, but the Charlotte (48-50) pitching staff was able to hold off the Sounds (57-40) to snap a five-game losing streak and seal the 2-0 victory.

Bryse Wilson made his second Triple-A start of the season and outside of two walks, he gave up just one hit in 4 ⅔ innings while striking out eight. For seven innings, that was the only hit that the Sounds mustered in the game, with the only other two came off of Evan McKendry in the bottom of the eighth and ninth.

While the defense was fairly efficient, the offense sadly was not. It put up four hits the whole game, with Ryan Noda and Korey Lee accounting for one RBI apiece. Noda drove in the first run on a solo home run that exploded off the bat at 110.3 mph, ranking fourth in all of Triple-A in exit velocity:

Just a few batters later Korey Lee took advantage of a fielding error from the Sounds, and drove in the second and final run of the game on a ball to center field. He had himself an excellent game Thursday, and accounted for three of Charlotte’s four hits. The extra run support wasn’t needed in the end, as McKendry was excellent for 4 ⅓ innings. In a wild turn of events for the Charlotte bullpen, he didn’t let a situation get out of control and in the process earned the win.

It also definitely helps when your defense can double a guy off at first for the final outs of the game! Shout-out to Jacob Amaya for the heads-up play:

Birmingham Barons 7, Montgomery Biscuits 6
The Barons (55-38) scored first and last, walking off the Montgomery Biscuits (48-45) in the bottom of the ninth for the 7-6 win — their 12th in a row. You read that correctly: Birmingham has not lost since July 6.

The offense boasted 12 hits and went 5-for-13 with runners in scoring position (.385), and had so many base runners that they still left seven on. Pretty much everyone pitched in somewhere along the way, and three Birmingham batters posted multi-hit games: Sam Antonacci, Wilfred Veras and Jacob Gonzalez Z— who also ripped a double and drove in a run.

William Bergolla capped off the offense for the most hits (3-for-4), and Ryan Galanie drove in three runs (two counted for RBIs), and his one hit was the one that mattered — the walk-off base hit that won the game:

Tanner McDougal was off his game a bit today and gave up four runs in the second inning, beginning with a solo home run for the Biscuits. McDougal gave up the four runs on five hits and two walks, and struck out two. Thankfully the bullpen was mostly solid, and Tyler Schweitzer once again paired a co-start with McDougal and was solid out of the bullpen for 3 ⅔ scoreless innings.

The only blemish out of the arm barn was from Zach Franklin, who blew the save in the top of the ninth that allowed Montgomery to tie the game at six, but the offense bailed him out so he also added a guilty W to his record.

Aberdeen IronBirds 2, Winston-Salem Dash 1 (10 innings)
The Dash (35-56) scored first in the second inning, but the IronBirds (36-56) fought back to tie the game at one in the fifth and force a 10th inning, ultimately walking off Winston-Salem to end its three-game win streak.

Aberdeen out-hit the Dash, 8-3, but the Winston-Salem pitching staff was efficient, with just one run given up on six hits and two walks from starting pitcher Dylan Cumming. The bullpen gave up just two hits and combined for six strikeouts for the first nine innings, but Gil Luna wasn’t able to handle the 10th. The IronBirds poked a sacrifice bunt in effort to move the ghost runner on second, but Luna threw it away, allowing the winning run to score:

Only three Dash batters recorded a hit Thursday, and Wilber Sánchez drove in their only run of the game on a base hit to right after T.J. McCants mashed a double to get into scoring position. The offense otherwise was pretty brutal and went 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position, leaving 11 on base.

Carolina Mudcats 2, Kannapolis Cannon Ballers 0
The Cannon Ballers (43-50) offense had plenty of chances to come back in this one, but they ended up going 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position, falling to the Mudcats (54-35), 2-0, for their third straight loss.

Lefthander Justin Sinibaldi was really solid for his first four innings, but he seemed to lose his control in the fifth as he loaded the bases with a hit batter and back-to-back walks. The only runs the Mudcats scored were in that inning, as a base hit brought in two runs, but they were otherwise also flat and failed every other time with runners in scoring position (1-for-5) and left six on base. Sinibaldi ended up with his seventh loss of the season (2-7), and gave up just those two runs on three hits and three walks, and he didn’t strike anyone out.

Hale Sims manned the final two innings for Kannapolis, and gave up just two hits and struck out three. The problem was that the Ballers bats were dead to the world and couldn’t back up their pitchers with any run support. George Wolkow mashed for two hits, including a double in the fourth, but there wasn’t much to write home about for the offense.

ACL White Sox 6, ACL Padres 4
The ACL Sox (33-27) out-hit the ACL Padres (14-46), 11-6, and though the Sox bullpen threatened to give the game away in the eighth inning, it were able to hold on for a 33rd win of the season, 6-4.

Righthander Jordany Chirinos made his 12th start gave up just one hit in his five innings of work. While the bullpen wasn’t as successful, the relievers made it work nonetheless. In White Sox fashion, the ACL squad also had a reliever that recorded a blown save and a win, as Marcelo Valladares gave up one run that allowed the Padres to tie the game, but Wes Kath pulled through in the clutch to take the lead in the bottom of the sixth, putting Valladeres back on the hook for the win.

The offense popped off for four runs in the seventh, giving the Sox a 6-1 lead before nearly blowing it yet again as the Padres cut the lead down with a three-run rally in the eighth. Jurdrick Profar was clutch Thursday, going 3-for-4 with a home run and three runs scored on the night, and Bryce Eblin (2-for-4) posted the most RBIs (two).
