Cowboys, Raiders dubbed top landing spots for $24 million starting corner

The Dallas Cowboys and Las Vegas Raiders have been connected to a veteran defensive back in NFL free agency.

Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox listed the Cowboys and Raiders as the top landing spots for free agent cornerback Mike Hilton, who has yet to sign with a team after spending the last four seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals.

“Hilton would be a terrific target for the Dallas Cowboys, who enter camp with injury concerns at cornerback. The Las Vegas Raiders could also find a home for Hilton after losing slot corner Nate Hobbs in free agency,” Knox wrote.

Hilton has established himself as one of the better slot corners in football over the past few years. The 31-year-old is an excellent run defender who tallied a career high in defensive stops (38) in 2024. He also earned a 91.7 run defense grade from Pro Football Focus, which led all corners.

Dallas and Las Vegas could both use Hilton. The Cowboys’ cornerback room is facing some uncertainty due to injuries to Trevon Diggs and rookie third-round pick Shavon Revel Jr., so adding a savvy and experienced veteran like Hilton to serve as the starting nickel would be logical.

The Raiders lost their starting nickel, Nate Hobbs, to the Green Bay Packers in free agency this offseason and have yet to find a viable replacement for him. Replacing Hobbs with Hilton would be a masterful move from general manager John Spytek.

It’s shocking that Hilton is still on the open market as teams kick off training camp this week. We’ll see if the Mississippi product finds a new home before the regular season.
