Home NFL Dallas Cowboys Making Major Decision on Star Cornerback

Dallas Cowboys Making Major Decision on Star Cornerback

NFL MrThanh · July 20, 2025 · Comments off

After some speculation regarding Trevon Diggs’ potential financial penalty this offseason, it seems the Dallas Cowboys are going to move forward with deducting money from the veteran’s 2025 salary.

According to the Dallas Morning News, the Cowboys plan to withhold $500,000 from Diggs for not “working out enough” with the team this season.

While not every player on the Cowboys’ roster has a specific workout clause, Diggs’ contract states he has to complete at least 84 percent of his offseason workouts with the team, according to reports. If not, the Cowboys have the right to issue a penalty.

This offseason, Diggs remains in recovery after dealing with knee concerns last season. He was expected to rehab at the Cowboys’ facilities, but chose to work out elsewhere. Back in June, it was apparent the Cowboys would consider withholding salary from Diggs once he was absent from voluntary workouts.

Eventually, the veteran cornerback showed up, joining the veteran pass rusher, Micah Parsons, who was viewed as a potential holdout candidate. While Parsons is healthy for the most part, the veteran is seeking a new contract extension as he enters the final season of his rookie deal. So far, Parsons has not landed his desired extension. However, he remained around the team during mandatory minicamp.

Diggs could be around the Cowboys for training camp next week, but he’s likely to be off the field as he could start camp on the NFL’s PUP list. While Diggs told reporters last month that he has a goal to be ready for the team’s season opener on the road against the Philadelphia Eagles in September, he is not quite ready to suit up just yet.

Diggs, a former second-round pick out of Alabama, has been a key contributor for the Cowboys’ defense for five seasons. During his rookie year, he started 11 of the 12 games he played. Diggs deflected 14 passes and picked up three interceptions, while producing 58 tackles.

During his second season, Diggs led the league with 11 interceptions. He also had two touchdowns and generated a career-high 21 pass deflections.

Since 2023, Diggs has dealt with some notable injury concerns. He suffered a torn ACL during the 2023 season after playing in just two games for the Cowboys. Although he returned to play in 11 games last season, Diggs continued dealing with knee concerns and opted for surgery in January.

During the 2024 NFL season, Diggs combined for 52 tackles. He had 11 pass deflections and two interceptions.
