OMG!! Insider’s latest Orioles trade pitch would torch the roster as we know it

MLB insider’s latest Orioles’ trade proposal has roster destroyed

Baltimore Orioles v New York Yankees

With the lull in trade rumors during the MLB All-Star break, this week often serves as the last time that insiders can put on their GM hats with the hopes of finding a trade that works for two teams.

Given their disappointment this season, the Baltimore Orioles likely will be at the center of most of the trade talk in the coming weeks, as contenders look to poach from a roster that has disappointed since Opening Day.

The dread that has plagued the Orioles’ 2025 season has led to many fans hoping that general manager Mike Elias is shown the door at the end of the season, and if the team makes the latest trade suggested by Jon Heyman of the New York Post, they may get to their wish.

Heyman’s latest efforts saw each contender making one trade that would address their needs at the deadline. For the Orioles, they were a match with the Philadelphia Phillies.

MLB insider’s Orioles trade pitch would gut the roster

Free agents after the season, it would stand to reason that the Orioles will look to move Cedric Mullins and Gregory Soto before the deadline.

Elias has already lost most good will when it comes to his approval rating with the fanbase, but if he doesn’t manage to get something for the players who won’t be with the team beyond this season, it would be even harder to defend his standing with the organization.

Félix Bautista is a different story, however, considering he is under team control until 2028.

of the American League’s best closers, if the Orioles are hoping to have a quick reset to contend next season, Bautista would serve an important role on the roster.

That said, there is a premium to be paid for pitching at the deadline.

That is why it feels like the Phillies are getting off easy here.

Abel is certainly a prospect the Orioles would ask for if they were to move Bautista; however, Cabrera doesn’t have the same prospect appeal as he did before the season.

Considering the Orioles would also be parting with Mullins and Soto as part of this trade, they would need to get more depth behind Abel as the centerpiece of the return.
