Yankees draft NL MVP’s son in 3rd-round MLB Draft steal

The New York Yankees can put together a batting lineup with nearly half former MVPs in it.

And now, their organization has added another connection to a former Most Valuable Player.

With the 103rd pick of the 2025 MLB Draft, late in the third round, the Yankees drafted Kaeden Kent. He’s the son of Jeff Kent, the former San Francisco Giants MVP of the National League in 2000.

Kaeden Kent is a shortstop from Texas A&M.

The 6-foot-2, 200-pound junior started every game at shortstop for the Aggies this season.

He’s a legitimate prospect, having batted .279 with 13 doubles, 13 homers and 49 RBI. He had 19 multi-hit games this spring. He also hit a walk-off grand slam against South Carolina.

It’s a great pick by the Yankees.

Kent has the pedigree and know-how to understand what it takes to make it in professional baseball.

He’s also incredibly talented, capable of making plays in the field and hitting rockets at the plate.

He’s not a perfect ballplayer, but Kent is everything you could hope to land at this point in the draft.

If everything broke the right way, maybe Kent could even chase the MVP honor his father once had. That’d be a dream come true for a Yankees third-round pick.
