Giancarlo Stanton celebrates after a home run in the World Series.
Giancarlo Stanton helped power the New York Yankees to a big win on Tuesday — and made a bit of history in the process.
Stanton connected on a three-run home run in the third inning of the 10-3 win over the Seattle Mariners. The homer provided the winning margin for the Yankees and pushed Stanton into an elite group of home run hitters spanning MLB history.
Yankees Share Love for Giancarlo Stanton
Stanton’s home run on Tuesday was the 431st of his career, putting him in the top 50 all-time for career home runs. Sports reporter Larry Fleisher took note of the accomplishment, announcing that Stanton had some elite company and the chance to keep climbing the all-time list.
“Nice swing by Giancarlo Stanton, who is now tied with Cal Ripken for 50th on the all-time list at 431. Next are Andruw Jones and Juan Gonzalez at 434,” Fleisher shared in a post on X.
The Yankees shared some love for Stanton after the accomplishment, sharing an image of his home run trot.
“Stant’n on Business,” the team wrote in their post on X.
The win moved the Yankees to 50-41, giving them just the third win in the last 10 games.
Giancarlo Stanton Looking to Heat Up
Stanton had been cold going into Tuesday’s game, battling through a series of injuries that have limited him to just 16 games this season. He has a .222 batting average and .637 OPS, hitting just one other home run before his three-run shot on Tuesday.
Despite the slow start, the Yankees seem to have big expectations for Stanton. Back in mid-June, just before Stanton made his debut, Yankees manager Aaron Boone said the team was excited to have him returning to the lineup.
“I’m excited to get the big boy back,” Boone said, via the New York Daily News. Asked about his expectations for Stanton, Boone added, “Just for him to be G.”
Boone added that the team was happy about Stanton’s performance as he rehabbed his injured elbow.
“He’s had a good ramp-up here,” Boone said. “He’s been hitting now for the last couple months. So not exactly a spring training, but I think a lot of reps and a lot of getting to this point to where he’s ready, whether it’s live ABs, you saw him hitting out on the field today against the high-speed [machine], the Trajekt underneath. So he’s built to this point.”
Boone added that the team didn’t plan on giving Stanton a huge workload early in his return, saying they would make sure his elbows aren’t feeling too much strain.
“I would think that things might come up from time to time, and that could play into different things on a given day, if you feel like it’s best to give him a day,” Boone said. “But I think he’s built some good momentum here over the last couple months with it. The strength in his hands and things like that has returned in a good way. So it’s certainly something we’ll pay attention to, but we feel like we’re in a pretty good spot.”
