Mejia became a prospect to watch last season when he posted a 3.47 ERA over 24 appearances (23 starts) in AA, which eventually earned him a promotion to Gwinnett. Although, he struggled in his only outing with the Stripers, giving up five earned runs in just 1.1 innings.

The Braves ultimately decided for Mejia to begin 2025 back in AA, where he has been dominant for the Clingstones, boasting an 8-1 record with a 1.96 ERA over 78.0 innings.

Mejia is currently the 23rd ranked prospect in the Atlanta Braves system, according to MLB.com. He doesn’t have the upside of some of the higher ranked prospects, but he’s certainly an option to potentially fill the void left by Chris Sale and Spencer Schwellenbach, who both were added to the 60-day IL last week.

Perhaps the most attractive part of Mejia’s game is that he limits free passes, walking 2.4 batters per nine innings. His repertoire, which consists of a low-90s fastball paired with a slider and changeup, doesn’t feature a lot of swing-and-miss, but he’s been incredibly effective at keeping guys off the bases this season, recording a 0.936 WHIP.

Obviously, AAA will present a much stiffer test, one Mejia didn’t seem quite ready for last season. But if he can carry his success from Columbus to Gwinnett, he could be in line to make his MLB debut in the near future.
