REPORT: Braves need to follow division rival’s lead with offseason coaching shake-up

Detroit Tigers v Washington Nationals - Game Two

Headline worthy moves were made in NL East on Sunday afternoon when one of the Braves’ division rivals fired some notable names.

The move in question was the Washington Nationals who announced they have parted ways with World Series winning manager Dave Martinez and General Manager Mike Rizzo.

These firings were the result of the Nationals rebuild never taking the needed next step despite having young All-Star players like James Wood and MacKenzie Gore.

Both officials were long tenured members of the Nationals organization with Rizzo being President of Baseball Operations for 17 seasons, and Martinez being the winningest manager in Nationals history.

This got us thinking, could the Braves be on their way to doing a similar shake-up?

Braves could clean house on the coaching staff this offseason

No matter how horrific the Braves have been in 2025, firing a Braves’ lifer like Brian Snitker simply isn’t going to happen.

Regardless, every report we’ve heard about Snitker’s future this year has indicated retirement for Snit following the end of this season.

Although Atlanta will not be firing long tenured personnel midseason like Washington, new faces could still be in the dugout in 2026.

Some of the more sensational crowd of Braves fans have called for Alex Anthopoulos’ job as well this season.

It’s true Anthopoulos clearly hasn’t been stellar since the 2021 World Series run, but parting ways with a savvy GM like him especially given how many impact moves he has made previously doesn’t make much sense at the moment.

Instead it’s likely all changes will occur in the Braves dugout in both roster reconstruction, and coaching changes. Replacing Snitker will be a very important task for Anthopoulos, but it’s not all that needs to be done in the offseason.

When Tim Hyers replaced long time hitting coach Kevin Seitzer this past offseason the move felt like a fresh start for everyone.

Unfortunately the relationship just hasn’t worked out for Atlanta as the offense has taken a massive step back in nearly every category in 2025 under Hyers.

It’s unfair to solely place the blame on Hyers, but it’s clear an overhaul change is needed for this offense to get back where they need to be in 2026.

Manager and hitting coach feel like a couple of locks to change hands this offseason, but other moves like bench coach, third base coach, and more could be on the way as well.

The Braves are an organization built on stability, but season’s as bad as 2025 can force teams to operate out their comfort zone. Changes will likely come, albeit much more gracefully for a beloved guy like Snitker.

However, all goods things must come to an end, and this upcoming offseason could bring one of the wilder shake-ups the Braves’ staff has seen in many years.
