If the New York Yankees haven’t hit rock bottom yet, they’re awfully close.

Back on June 22, the Yankees were 45-32 and firmly in first place in the AL East. Fast forward to the present day, where they’re now 48-40 and two games back of the Toronto Blue Jays in the standings.

On Saturday afternoon, the Yankees blew a late lead to the New York Mets at Citi Field. Luke Weaver gave up a go-ahead homer to Jeff McNeil in the bottom of the seventh inning. That ended up being all she wrote for the Bronx Bombers.

“You got to get out there and do it,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said following the team’s fifth consecutive loss. “One thing I know about Luke is he’s not afraid, he likes the action. And again, it’s sometimes just that fine line. We’re talking about three pitches that have hurt him big time here this week. But you also have to take a step back and say that, it’s three pitches that have hurt him.”

While there’s still plenty of time for the Yankees to turn things around, fans are convinced their struggles will continue until Boone is fired.

“It’s for sure officially time the Yankees fire Aaron Boone,” one fan wrote on X.

“Not even mad the Yankees lost. The more they lose, the more it forces change,” a second fan said.

“I have said this a million times the last few seasons…. They can fire Boone and they absolutely should. But no real change will come to the organization until Brian Cashman is shown the door with him,” another fan argued.

“Boone has a reason and excuse for everything. THIS TEAM STINKS! THEY NEED A NEW MANAGER TO PUT SOME FIRE INTO THIS TEAM,” a social media user wrote.

The Yankees have been managed by Boone since the 2018 season. They’ve reached the playoffs under his leadership every year outside of 2023.

Though we believe it’s unlikely the Yankees will fire Boone mid-season, crazier things have happened in the MLB.
