Marcus Semien saw many struggles throughout the first two months of 2025: he hit below .200 for the month of April, lost his leadoff spot and even heard rumblings of losing his everyday spot.
But just when all seemed lost, the 34-year-old All-Star went beast mode and it just happened to line up to when the calendar turned to June. Funny enough, which isn’t the first time in his career.
Sometimes summer is the moment for Semien
Back in his first year with Texas in 2022, Semien began the year with just one homer through his first 47 games and then burst his season wide open with a batting average of .287 alongside seven homers and 15 RBIs. Semien ended that season with 26 long balls and 85 RBIs on a Rangers team that lost 94 games.
This season was a little bit worse for the second baseman as he entered the month of June with a .207 batting average and a slugging percentage of just .272. On June 1, he went 2-for-2 with a double, two walks and three runs scored which kicked off his torrid month.
He capped the month off with a two-run home run off of Baltimore’s Trevor Rogers for his fourth homer of the month and a .324 average in 26 games. He also ended the month with 16 RBIs and 11 walks for a .383 OBP.

Semien’s turnaround is stark reminder of how fans tend to overreact at times
Sure, the Rangers season has left a lot to be desired for fans and while those overreactions are well-warranted the Semien resurgence is a sign that we should give veterans a little more leeway.
In a world where it seems the negatives are louder than the positives, the Rangers faithful teared into Semien’s disastrous start to 2025 and while fans have given him his flowers in June, we are still stuck comparing his current numbers to that of his 2023 All-Star year.
Now we still shouldn’t let Semien off the hook. He’s still sporting an average hovering near the .240 mark and is fifth on the team in strikeouts with 65 and an .660 OPS. While that is not good, we still need to admit that maybe we overreacted and Semien is the exact veteran we think of him.
