Yankees fans panicking as Trent Grisham is removed from game without explanation

UPDATE: Grisham has left the game with hamstring tightness, the Yankees announced.

The New York Yankees were dealt tough injury news before their four-game stint in Toronto against the Blue Jays. Fernando Cruz hit the IL, which will put more strain on the bullpen, and a potential injury to Austin Wells kept him out of action again (and might explain his struggles).

It didn’t end there, though. Trent Grisham was removed from Monday night’s game in the fifth inning without explanation. Jasson Dominguez came in to play left field and Cody Bellinger shifted over to center.

Grisham recorded the first hit of the night (and was the Yankees’ first baserunner) in the top of the fourth when he singled off Max Scherzer. Jazz Chisholm followed with a two-run homer to put New York up 2-0.

Yankees fans are not handling the news well. Grisham might’ve cooled off a bit offensively as of late, but he’s still one of the most important players in the lineup as he’s delivered on both sides of the ball for much of 2025.

Yankees News: Trent Grisham removed from game vs Blue Jays it’s unclear why

Some fans suspected Grisham hurt himself in the top of the fourth on a Scherzer pickoff attempt, but that can’t be determined as the reason just yet since he was in center field for the bottom of the fourth.

Perhaps going back out on defense aggravated whatever he may have suffered in the top half of the inning, but we’re sure we’ll find out more before the game ends. The YES broadcast has been waiting for an update.

Thankfully, the Yankees have the outfield depth to absorb the loss of Grisham. It just won’t be easy to replace his production on a consistent basis, but it’ll at least mean more playing time for Dominguez in the interim. Fans have grown frustrated with him being relegated to the bench when he’s hot due to matchup preferences.

Everyone would prefer this is just a precautionary issue, though, with Grisham taking a rest for the remaining of this contest so he can be back on the field tomorrow.
