This offseason is incredibly important for the Milwaukee Brewers. They’re a year removed from losing both their ace Corbin Burnes and their manager Craig Counsell.
Despite these two big losses, Milwaukee was great in 2024, winning the National League Central. Now, they’re set to lose even more heading into 2025. Speculation has grown that star closer Devin Williams could be traded after the Brewers declined his club option.
There are a bunch of different teams that would love to bring Williams in, but he more than likely wouldn’t even be the biggest loss for them this winter.
FanSided’s Robert Murray recently suggested that he’s not sure if the Brewers’ star shortstop Willy Adames, who’s entered unrestricted free agency this winter, will be back in 2025.
“The Milwaukee Brewers are in the mix for Willy Adames, but signing him to a long-term deal is a long shot.
Adames has been connected to the (Los Angeles) Dodgers, (Atlanta) Braves and more, but despite his recent comments, a return to Milwaukee is unlikely,” Murray wrote. ”
Adames enjoyed his time with the Brewers, and was an essential piece of this season’s NL Central-winning team.
At the same time, he likely priced himself out of Milwaukee.” As Murray suggested, it’s hard to imagine that Milwaukee could compete with the Dodgers in a bidding war for Adames. Beyond just the Dodgers, the New York Mets and Braves have also been directly connected to Adames.
Last season, Adames slashed .251/.331/.462 with 32 home runs and a 3.1 WAR. He very well may have priced himself out of Milwaukee’s price range, landing a much larger deal than the Brewers front office is willing to offer.
