As the Texas Rangers prepare for the 2025 MLB Draft, a new mock draft has a new player landing on the team in the first round. This new mock draft has the team so happy with where they are with one of their top prospects that it’s willing to go after another very young infielder and see if Daniel Pierce can keep growing and developing and take a fast track from high school to Major League Baseball.
This latest mock draft comes from Jonathan Mayo. The analyst believes that the Rangers are going to take Pierce, a high school shortstop out of Mill Creek High School in Hoschton, Georgia.
Mock draft ties Texas Rangers to shortstop Daniel Pierce at No. 13 — for 2025 first round
“Pierce has a mature approach at the plate and focuses on making contact to all fields with his quick right-handed stroke,” the potential Texas Rangers draftee scouting report reads. “He has average raw power and should develop into a 15-homer threat as he continues to add muscle. Pierce has plus speed and the instincts to make the most of his quickness on the bases and in the field.”
One interesting tidbit is that the team’s top prospect, Sebastian Walcott, is already playing shortstop. However, there have been rumblings that he could be moved to third base.
The team is at least playing with that idea. Should it decide to take PIerce in the first round, one has to think that perhaps Chris Young and company will be more serious about moving Walcott to another position on the infield.
Pierce is especially an interesting pick because, beyond Walcott, most of the Texas Rangers top prospects are pitchers or outfielders. The team would no doubt like to add to its infield prospects through this draft.
