Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes gets ready to throw a pass to a receiver on the left side of the field during first half action against the Kansas City Chiefs in Orchard Park, Nov.17, 2024.

Patrick Mahomes was just looking forward to playing golf. Rather, he was caught up in an awkward dad moment that has now gone viral:

When a kid asked him for an autograph, the Kansas City Chiefs star was playing in the 2023 American Century Championship. Mahomes turned the request down, citing tournament rules, but the kid’s father didn’t take it well.

A video of the uncomfortable exchange resurfaced in 2025 and quickly picked up steam across social media. Fans watched the clip in disbelief as the dad pushed back at the Super Bowl champ, right on the course.

Mahomes explained to fans that he had been told to slow down on autograph signings because it affected the pace of play.

“They told me I can’t do anymore… I was signing stuff, and they said I was taking too long,” Mahomes told the group nearby.

Here is a look at the video:

Still, one young fan gave it a shot. “Mr. Mahomes, will you sign my jersey when you’re done?” the boy asked. The quarterback, still polite but firm, replied, “Can’t sign for everyone… can’t make everybody happy.” That’s when the dad chimed in. “Yeah, you can… you can just make one kid happy out of a hundred,” he said.

Mahomes didn’t flinch. “I’ll make 99 sad,” he shot back. “That’s alright… one out of 99, at least it ain’t zero percent,” the dad added, pushing the issue a little further.

The exchange ended without incident, but the clip lit up in X (formerly Twitter) again in 2025, reigniting conversations around fan access, athlete boundaries, and public expectations.

Despite the brief tension, Mahomes quickly returned to his game. Known for his calm under pressure on the field and apparently on the fairway, he brushed off the awkward moment and focused on his swing.

As Mahomes prepares to make a comeback in 2025, moments like this show how much attention follows him everywhere. Even at a fun golf event that too years ago, he couldn’t catch a break, and this time it shows that the pressure didn’t come from a pass rush, but from a frustrated dad.
