White Sox May Top Last Year’s Trade Deadline Frenzy

The White Sox were busy at the 2024 trade deadline, as they dealt Paul DeJong, Eloy Jimenez, Tanner Banks, Erick Fedde, Tommy Pham, and Michael Kopech in a 24-hour span right before the trade window closed.

Stepping into 2025, the White Sox find themselves as sellers again. According to Vinnie Duber, it is expected that the White Sox will be just as busy, if not more busy than last year, as there are plenty of players that could be on the move at the deadline as the White Sox look to move assets to stock the farm system.

Chris Getz said he expects a “fairly active” trade deadline for the Sox.

After landing Miguel Vargas last summer and seeing three guys from the Garrett Crochet trade reach the bigs already, is there another impact deal to be made?

You could see almost double the number of players from last year on the move, as the White Sox have a roster that was built to be flipped at the deadline.

Almost every single outfielder will likely be on the move if they can find an interested party. Luis Robert Jr. will be the wildcard, as it is unclear what his value will be with the season he is having. However, if the White Sox are including money to move him, they could get a very solid haul back if teams believe in him bouncing back.

The same can be said for Andrew Benintendi, as he is having a decent season and isn’t on a terrible contract. If the Sox are including money in a trade, he could net the White Sox an intriguing prospect or two, as he is on pace to hit 20+ homeruns.

Out of the remaining players in the outfield, Mike Tauchman is having the beast season, as a team looking for a left-handed outfielder could be interested in Tauchman, as he is affordable and is playing very well. Austin Slater could intrigue a team looking for a platoon bat who can hit lefties, and Michael A. Taylor could be interesting for a team looking for a defensive replacement and pinch runner for the playoffs. You could see the Sox potentially moving off all five outfielders if things go right.

As for the infield, if Josh Rojas can get hot, he could be on the move, as he is a versatile infielder. However, he is hitting .183. In an ideal world, the White Sox would like to trade him, but he will likely need to get on a streak if they want to get anything of note for him.

Lenyn Sosa could be someone that is surprisingly moved, as he is having a very good season so far. Hitting .277 with six homeruns and 21 RBIs, Sosa has very good offensive output for a second basemen. However, his deficiencies in taking walks and playing defense may limit his value, so if an offer isn’t overwhelming, it would not be worth trading him.

On the pitching side, the White Sox have gotten decent play out of Brandon Eisert, Steven Wilson, Dan Altavilla, Tyler Gilbert, and Tyler Alexander in the bullpen, and it is likely that they will be attempting to move all or most of them at the deadline.

In the rotation, the White Sox will 100% be looking to trade Aaron Civale and Adrian Houser, as they are veterans that can eat up a ton of innings for a team making a playoff push. Additionally, Davis Martin could be on the move, as he has been very solid for the Sox and is on a very team friendly contract.

It is likely that the only untouchable players on the roster are Shane Smith, Grant Taylor, Mike Vasil, Chase Meidroth, Edgar Quero, and Kyle Teel. It is also very unlikely that the Sox trade Sean Burke or Jonathan Cannon either. Outside of that, in an ideal world, the White Sox could be moving 10+ guys at the deadline.

Whether another team will want to give up anything of value for most of the White Sox roster remains to be seen, but I guarantee Chris Getz will have a very busy phone as we move into July.
