Yankees Shockingly Linked To Reunion Trade For Veteran Infielder

The New York Yankees have desperately needed to add an infielder to their roster for months now. With Gleyber Torres leaving town in free agency, the Bronx Bombers were left with a hole in the lineup, and it’s yet to be filled. With Oswaldo Cabrera ending up on the injured list with a gruesome leg injury earlier in the season, the Yankees’ infield depth has been tested even further.

New York is going to need to make a deal for an infielder, or it’s going to struggle down the stretch. Jon Heyman of the New York Post recently suggested the Yankees would look to swing a trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates to reunite with infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa this season. “Old friend Isiah Kiner-Falefa is likely to be dealt by Pittsburgh,” Heyman wrote. “Could the Yankees, who showed interest last year, make sense to shore up the infield?” On the season, Kiner-Falefa is slashing .282/.328/.352 with a 1.1 WAR. This comes after he posted a .638 OPS and 3.6 WAR last season.

The veteran is an excellent defender and would provide the Yankees with a reliable option who’s already comfortable in the clubhouse and in the Bronx. But adding him wouldn’t be much of an upgrade. The Yankees need to make an impact move this season if they want to make a run back to the World Series. While there won’t be too many star infielders on the market, the Yankees shouldn’t add another veteran depth option.

They need an impact maker.
