The New York Yankees continue to be mentioned in blockbuster MLB trade rumors.

The New York Yankees continue to be mentioned in ongoing MLB trade rumors with the storied club particularly being linked to infield help. Bleacher Report’s Zachary Rymer put together a list of “dream” moves for several MLB teams and pegs the Yankees as an ideal fit for a 6-time All-Star.

Rymer makes the case for New York making a blockbuster move for Cleveland Guardians third baseman Jose Ramirez.

“Ramírez, 32, is another guy with full no-trade protection, and thus another guy who will go anywhere only if he wants to,” Rymer wrote in a June 18, 2025, story titled, “Dream Landing Spots for MLB’s High-Priced, Change of Scenery Stars Post-Devers Trade.”

“This said, the Yankees’ contention outlook is a heck of a lot better than Cleveland’s, and that is even with a hole on their infield. He would fill that by playing third and bumping Jazz Chisholm Jr. back to second base, though he’d also partner with Aaron Judge to again give the Yankees the best duo in the American League,” Rymer added.

“As for how Ramírez would fit at Yankee Stadium, here’s a hint: Out of his 268 home runs, 170 have been as a left-handed hitter to right field.”

Here’s what you need to know about Ramirez’s fit on the Yankees.

MLB Rumors: What Would a ‘Dream’ Jose Ramirez Trade Cost the Yankees?

What would the price for Ramirez be for New York to be able to land the 5-time Silver Slugger? It is worth emphasizing that this is a “dream” move for the Yankees, making it unlikely New York can pry Ramirez away from Cleveland. Ramirez would also need to sign off on any potential deal.

“If I hear another ‘how underappreciated, underrated’ he is from somebody on a network, I want to rip my arms off and throw it at the TV”

Aaron Boone on Jose Ramirez:

Ramirez’s seven-year, $141 million contract is slated to run through the 2028 season. Any deal would likely involve the Guardians pushing for young prospects rather than win-now players.

The Yankees have no shortage of young players and prospects the team could try to float to entice the Guardians. Pitcher Luis Gil continues to recover from an injury as the right hander aims to make his 2025 debut.

Additionally, the Yankees could create some package with struggling outfielder Jasson Domínguez, infield prospect George Lombard Jr. or outfielder Spencer Jones.

The Yankees Are ‘Aggressively’ in Search of Infield Help Via Trade: Report

New York could also utilize some of the team’s depth if Cleveland prefers players who can contribute right away while also saving some money. Ramirez is hitting .318 in 2025, his best output since 2017.

“José Ramírez is mind-blowingly good, mind-blowingly overlooked and mind-blowingly underrated.”

The infielder also has 13 home runs and 35 RBI in 71 appearances in 2025. USA Today’s Bob Nightengale reported on May 25, that the Yankees are “aggressively searching” for an infielder.

“The Yankees are aggressively searching for a right-handed bat, preferably a third baseman, while also looking for another starter,” Nightengale wrote in a story titled, “MLB’s best comeback story? Jacob deGrom looks like the Cy Young winner he was.”

Where could this help come from? MLB Trade Rumors’ Nick Deeds explains why the Yankees could find it challenging to find the piece the club is searching for ahead of the deadline.

“Right-handed bats who can play the infield seem likely to be relatively few and far between on this offseason’s market, however,” Deeds explained in a May 25, article titled, “Yankees Reportedly Interested In Right-Handed Bat, Rotation Help.”

“… Plenty of teams could still plausibly fall out of contention before the trade deadline, but with two months to go until then the Yankees will need to wait a lot longer if they’re going to find an upgrade with a club like the Cardinals or Rangers that’s currently on the bubble of contention.”
