SEATTLE — Roman Anthony hit his first career major league home run in the first inning Monday.
The 21-year-old, who is batting third in the Boston Red Sox lineup, belted a 391-foot home run to right field. It left his bat with a 104 mph exit velocity.
The rookie hit it in his seventh career big league game and 20th plate appearance. He connected on a 96.2 mph sinker from Seattle starting pitcher Logan Gilbert with the count even 2-2.
Per the Red Sox media relations department, Anthony (21 years, 34 days old) is the youngest Red Sox player to homer in a game since Rafael Devers back in 2017 (20 years old).
Devers ironically was traded to the San Francisco Giants in a shocking blockbuster deal Sunday.
Baseball America ranks Anthony the game’s No. 1 prospect. Boston called him up from Triple-A Worcester on June 9 to take injured Wilyer Abreu’s spot on the 26-man roster.
