The Los Angeles Angels have confirmed a 1-year, $2.5 million deal with right-handed pitcher Kyle Hendricks – Sports Al Dente

The Los Angeles Angels and right-handed pitcher Kyle Hendricks finalized a one-year, $2.5 million contract on Thursday.

Hendricks had spent his entire Major League Baseball career with the Chicago Cubs. Over 11 seasons, he has a record of 97-81 with a 3.68 ERA in 270 starts and six relief appearances.

He was the last player from the Cubs’ 2016 World Series championship team, which won the franchise’s first title since 1908.

To make room for Hendricks on the 40-man roster, the Angels designated right-hander Ryan Miller for assignment.

Hendricks was named an All-Star in 2016, finishing the season with a 16-8 record and a league-leading 2.13 ERA. In the World Series that year, he pitched 4 1/3 shutout innings in Game 3, which the Cubs lost to Cleveland 1-0, and 4 2/3 innings in Game 7, which the Cubs won 8-7 in 10 innings.

Hendricks, who will turn 35 on December 7, finished this past season with a 4-12 record and a 6.27 ERA in 24 starts. However, he posted a 3.14 ERA in five relief appearances from May 23 to June 14. He completed the final year of a $70 million, five-year contract.

In his last game with the Cubs on September 28 against Cincinnati, Hendricks pitched 7 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing only two hits. After the game, he received a standing ovation and waved to the crowd as he came out of the dugout.

Hendricks went to college at Dartmouth and attended Capistrano Valley High School in Mission Viejo, California, about 25 miles from Angel Stadium.
