After snapping a six-series winning streak, the Atlanta Braves will look to build on this momentum in back-to-back home series.
Things looked better for the Braves in Milwaukee than they have in quite some time. The team began its most recent road trip by getting swept by the San Francisco Giants, but flipped the script against the Brewers.
Sale, Bats Set Up Braves in Series Opener
Chris Sale threw his fifth consecutive quality start to set Atlanta up nicely in the series opener in Milwaukee. The veteran southpaw allowed one run on five hits over seven innings pitched. He worked around two walks and notched a season-high 11 strikeouts.
Sale’s admiral efforts were aided by hot bats. Ronald Acuña Jr., Matt Olson, and Eli White all homered in the road contest, but Austin Riley was the unspoken hero of the offense. The third baseman went 3-for-5 with two runs. The Braves defeated the Brewers 7-1 to pull ahead in the series early.

Atlanta Secures Road Series Win
Atlanta’s offense was unable to imitate this same level of success in Tuesday’s game. Grant Holmes allowed three runs over 5 ⅓ innings, and the Braves failed to battle back. An Acuña RBI single put the only run on the board for the Braves, and the team fell 4-1.
Given that the Braves had lost five straight series before facing the Brewers, Tuesday’s loss felt like another nail in the coffin of the season. Yet, Atlanta successfully took the series with a win in Wednesday’s finale.
Spencer Schwellenbach stunned with a complete game, striking out nine batters and allowing two runs on five hits. The Braves bats assured that Schwellenbach’s outing didn’t go to waste. Acuña looked like his old self, going 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBI. The Braves defeated the Brewers 6-2 to snap the series losing streak.

Braves Look to Continue Success at Home
Now, Atlanta must look to build on this momentum in the team’s return home. The Braves are heading back to Truist Park for back-to-back home series against the Colorado Rockies and the New York Mets. The squad has fared better in Atlanta this season, going 17-14 at home compared to a brutal 12-24 on the road.
Despite a promising performance in Milwaukee, the Braves are 2-8 in their last 10 games. This home stretch could be the team’s opportunity to turn things around.
Colorado is currently 13-55. Sweeping the Rockies or at least securing the series win could be a confidence booster for the Braves. Atlanta took two of three from the Rockies when the two teams faced off in Colorado back in April.
After a three-game series against the Rockies, the Braves will face the Mets for the first time this season. New York currently leads the NL East, while Atlanta is just 3 1/2 games ahead of the last-place Miami Marlins. Winning against the Mets would be huge for the Braves, especially as they prepare to hit the road to visit Miami before a four-game series against the Mets in New York.
While the Braves were able to end their series win drought in Milwaukee, it’s still been a rough season for the squad thus far. Building on the series against the Brewers by winning back-to-back home series could turn the tide.
