Robert Stock is no Rich Hill, but he certainly is racking up stints with the Boston Red Sox.

Stock, 35, has been signed and/or designated for assignment a total of five times over the last five seasons, and earned his third stint on the active roster after being recalled from Triple-A Worcester on Saturday.

Cooper Criswell was optioned to make room in Boston, while Josh Winckowski was placed on the 60-day injured list with a right elbow flexor strain to open a spot on the 40-man roster.

Stock will wear No. 78, which he also wore in his lone appearance for the club this season — a two-inning performance in which he allowed one run on three hits in a loss to the Toronto Blue Jays on April 7. Stock has been much better starting for the WooSox, cultivating a 3.09 ERA.

It’s expected that the veteran journeyman will come out of the bullpen in Boston.
