NEW YORK — Boston Red Sox starter Kutter Crawford was checked out in Boston after experiencing wrist pain.
The 29-year-old righty has no structural damage and returned to Fort Myers where he is expected to throw a bullpen session over the weekend.
Crawford, who has been on the injured list since the start of the season with right patellar tendinopathy, was days away from a rehab assignment before his wrist began to hurt him.
“It’s up to him now as (far as) tolerance,” manager Alex Cora said Friday before Boston’s game at Yankee Stadium. “No live BP scheduled. Just a bullpen and we’ll know more over the weekend.”
Crawford’s patellar tendon injury dates back to the third start of last season when he hurt it covering first base. He still made his next 30 starts, led the team in innings (183 ⅔) and posted a 4.36 ERA and .223 batting average against.
~ Tanner Houck (a right flexor pronator strain) has not yet begun throwing off a mound.
