White Sox Finally Pull The Trigger On Long-Awaited Move

The White Sox are coming off a nice series against the Detroit Tigers, as they split the series. However, the White Sox could easily have taken three out of four from them. This is encouraging to see, as the Tigers are one of the best teams in the American League.

If that wasn’t good enough, the White Sox had a great organizational day, as there was news about Jerry Reinsdorf selling the team, as well as outstanding performances in the minor leagues by some key players. However, the best news came in the form of a move that was long overdue.

According to Chris Cotillo and confirmed by other sources, the White Sox are making a huge move by promoting their number one position player prospect, Kyle Teel.

Here in Charlotte, Kyle Teel was scratched from the lineup shortly before first pitch and he’s expected to join the White Sox for his major league debut.

This is amazing news for the White Sox, as they always need another bat in the lineup and Teel provides just that. Teel now joins fellow rookies Tim Elko, Chase Meidroth, and Edgar Quero in the White Sox lineup to give them a very solid rookie core.

Teel has been on an absolute tear in the minors as of late, as he hit .333 with a .444 OBP in the month of May. He added five homeruns, 14 RBIs, and four stolen bases, to go along with a very solid 15 walks.

Teel has stayed hot in the month of June, as he is four for ten in two games so far. This is the perfect time to call Teel up to the major leagues, as he is swinging the bat well, so that can help him adjust to major league pitching.

While this move hasn’t been made official, the White Sox will have to make a roster move to open a spot for Teel. At this point it is unclear on who will be DFA’d or optioned to AAA to make room for Teel, but it could be one of the six outfielders, or potentially infielder Vinny Capra. The White Sox could also have a trade in place to open up a spot, as they traded Matt Thaiss when Lee was ready to come back up to Chicago.

Teel will likely split catching duties with Edgar Quero and Korey Lee, which allows them to keep their legs fresh for the long season ahead. It wouldn’t surprise me if Teel got some playing time at first base as well, as he started to get some reps in there at AAA.

The White Sox are finally starting to piece together a fun core and Teel can be one of the main guys moving forward if things go as planned. It will be a fun rest of the summer, as there could be more intriguing prospects joining Teel in Chicago shortly.
