It honestly felt like it couldn’t get worse for the Atlanta Braves heading into Thursday.
The season literally couldn’t have started worse in terms of wins and losses and the Braves have seemed lifeless once again since the middle of May.
Unfortunately, Atlanta found a way to be even more embarrassing in their absolute collapse against the Diamondbacks.
At the start of the ninth inning, the Braves were up be the score of 10-4. Ronald Acuña Jr. and Drake Baldwin had each homered and it looked like Atlanta was about to get a much needed easy win. Unfortunately, what transpired next is among the worst losses in franchise history.
We may have just watched one of the worst regular season losses in Braves franchise history
It is almost impressive that the Braves found a way to lose this game. Being up six runs in the ninth inning at home is pretty much as safe as it gets in the game of baseball.
Scott Blewett even got Eugenio Suarez to strike out to start the inning. After that, everything fell apparent. In case you were wondering what a seven run rally in an inning looks like, here is how this one went from Arizona.

That is a special kind of terrible. Blewett absolutely been able to get through that inning with a six run lead, but could only manage one out.
Based on all the evidence we have right now, it sure seems like Iglesias is washed and Atlanta should be looking for a new closer. The heart of the order had a chance to redeem the Braves in the bottom of the ninth, but instead Marcell Ozuna grounded into a double play and Atlanta went quietly.
If you are looking for total rock bottom, the Braves have found it.
