BOSTON — The Boston Red Sox made four roster moves before Tuesday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels here at Fenway Park.

They placed right-handed reliever Nick Burdi on the 15-day injured list and optioned righty Richard Fitts to Triple-A Worcester.

Boston also recalled righties Zack Kelly and Cooper Criswell from Worcester.

Burdi suffered a foot contusion during a play in which he covered first base Monday.

“Had some X-rays yesterday. He’s pretty sore today,” manager Alex Cora said. “No fracture but he wasn’t going to be available for a while so he’s on the IL.”

Criswell pitched well at Worcester, posting a 1.52 ERA in seven outings (six starts). He has held opponents to a .179 batting average in 29 ⅔ innings.

“Strike throwing; the cutter is playing so he’s in a good spot,” Cora said about Criswell.

Fitts started Monday and allowed six runs (five earned runs) on three homers in just one inning. He took the loss against the Angels. It was Fitts’ second start back from the IL.

He went three innings and 44 pitches last week in his first start back in Milwaukee. The plan was for him to go 75-80 pitches Monday. But the Red Sox removed him at 39 pitches after he was hit hard.

“We were in the middle of extending him and to do that at this level after yesterday, it was going to be hard,” Cora said.

Hunter Dobbins — who relieved Fitts on Monday and allowed just one run in 5 innings — will be moved back into the starting rotation.
