Cardinals Win 2-0 on a Sonny Gray pitching gem! And more top notch defense and a solid bullpen performance - Yahoo Sports

Oh baby, what a beautiful afternoon for baseball here at Globe Life Field! The temperature’s just right and we’re ready for some Cardinals baseball, my friends.

Top of the first, and wouldn’t you know it, the Rangers get three quick outs on Nootbaar, young Masyn Winn, and Brendan Donovan. chuckles That’s what we call a quick inning, folks.

Bottom half, Sonny Gray’s out there dealing like a man who means business. Gets Smith, gives up a little knock to Seager – heh, that ball had some eyes on it, bouncing off Arenado’s glove. But then, oh baby, strikes out Langford and Jung back-to-back. That’ll get you a cold frosty one!

Second inning, and here come our Redbirds! Big Willie Contreras works himself a walk, and holy cow, a wild pitch moves him to second! *laughs* After a groundout by Herrera, the great Nolan Arenado – and I mean GREAT – brings home Contreras with a sacrifice fly. Cardinals strike first, 1-0!

*sips a cold frosty one* Let me tell you something, friends, this game’s shaping up to be a dandy. Bottom half, Osuna draws a walk but gets himself picked off – oh, for crying out loud! That’s baseball for ya.

*fast forward to the fourth* Hold the phone! Winn doubles, and there’s Willson again with a ground-rule double down the line! 2-0 Cardinals, and isn’t that a beautiful thing?

And here we are in the ninth, Ryan Helsley coming in to close it out. Gets Seager swinging – oh baby! Langford grounds out on a magnificent play by Donovan! And Jung goes down swinging to end it!

Cardinals win 2-0, and that’s a winner! *chuckles* Time to grab a cold one and celebrate this win, folks. From Globe Life Field, this is Mike Shannon saying so long, and remember – don’t drink and drive, and get up, baby!

-Helsley is 3.0 ERA after today

-Maton is at 2.45 ERA and 1.90 FIP after today

-Gray goes to 6-1 at 3.05 xFIP, 3.27 FIP, 3.65 ERA
