REPORT: Harold Reynolds Believes 1 Free Agent Pitcher Would Be Great Fit For Red Sox

BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS - MAY 20: A view of the Red Sox logo outside of Fenway Park on May 20, 2020 in Boston, Massachusetts.

The Los Angeles Dodgers won the 2024 World Series, defeating the New York Yankees in five games.

With the season in the books, free agency is underway with plenty of star players potentially signing with new teams.

One player who will test free agency is Dodgers pitcher Jack Flaherty, who was acquired from the Detroit Tigers during the 2024 regular season.

Although Flaherty appears to love it in his hometown of Los Angeles, analyst Harold Reynolds said he thinks Flaherty would be a great fit for the Boston Red Sox.

“I think Boston’s on that track, of loving the breaking pitch, they like the guys that throw that hook a lot more,” Reynolds said, via MLB Network.

Reynolds points out that Flaherty was using his breaking ball a lot more than he had in previous years when he played for the St. Louis Cardinals.

Flaherty appeared to be a rental by the Dodgers for their playoff run after suffering multiple injuries to their starting rotation.

Reynolds appears to believe that the Red Sox are drawn toward pitchers who use their breaking pitches more often, rather than pitchers who try to overpower hitters with velocity.

Flaherty was 13-7 in the regular season with a 3.17 ERA and 194 strikeouts in 162.0 innings pitched combined with the Tigers and Dodgers.

Along with Flaherty, there are other big-name starting pitchers hitting free agency, including Blake Snell, Max Fried and Corbin Burnes.

It will be interesting to see if the Dodgers push to keep Flaherty or if he signs elsewhere.
