Laz Diaz has been notorious for making bad calls when he’s working an MLB game.
But on Wednesday, he admitted fault.
Diaz was behind the plate during the Boston Red Sox-New York Mets game at Fenway Park when Kristian Campbell came up to bat in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Mets pitcher Edwin Diaz threw a 1-1 slider that Campbell took at the knees. Diaz called it a strike, but immediately realized his mistake.
“That’s on me, Kristian,” a mic caught him saying. “Hey, that’s on me.”
Campbell‘s at-bat ended in a walk, but the Red Sox fell to the Mets, 5-1.
According to Ump Score Cards, Diaz is MLB’s fifth-worst ball-strikes caller.
