Cowboys news: Offseason activities begin, Dak Prescott ready for his return

‘Sorry for the language’: Cowboys QB Dak Prescott reflects on 2024, reignites his connection with CeeDee Lamb – Garrett Podell, CBS Sports

Dak is determined and to return to form this season coming off of his 2024 injury.

No NFL team’s season officially ends in Week 9. However, the Dallas Cowboys’ 2024 campaign (7-10) was essentially dead in the water the moment three-time Pro Bowl quarterback Dak Prescott came up limping against the Atlanta Falcons.

Shortly thereafter, Prescott was ruled out for the year and underwent season-ending surgery for a torn hamstring. He’s now ready to roll for the Cowboys’ 2025 offseason program under new head coach Brian Schottenheimer, who noted on Tuesday that the 31-year-old 2023 NFL MVP runner-up is “progressing nicely.”

“He looks good,” Schottenheimer said. “You guys will see him out there today. He’s doing his normal stuff. He’s getting most of the work with the ones. We’re rolling some guys through there but you’ll see him. He looks good. I think he’s progressing nicely.”

Prescott looked smooth at Dallas’ second practice of organized team activities (OTAs) while throwing the football to all areas of the field. He even scrambled a few times was looked fluid when doing so, which makes sense considering he’s approaching being fully cleared to play. Presoctt’s sole limitation at the moment is playing full-contact football. That won’t be a factor for the next few months. Prescott is certainly tracking toward being fully cleared by the time Dallas opens the NFL’s 2025 season at the Super Bowl LIX champion Eagles in Philadelphia.

“Pretty much can do it all,” Prescott said. “Feel good. Yeah, I think I’m just not cleared for contact, which we’ve got a while for that anyways. Yeah, I’m out there in the team activities, feel good. Just trying to stay that way. Yeah, feeling great.”

This recovery pace has Prescott right on his originally-planned schedule. He previously told CBS Sports in December his plan was to start OTAs full-go, and that’s exactly what has transpired. He credits being where he is now with his injury occurring midseason and working tirelessly with Cowboys director of rehab Britt Brown and his personal physical therapist Luke Miller.

“I mean f—, I was hurt,” Prescott said. “Excuse me. My offseason started way earlier. Sorry for the language, but my offseason started way earlier so that’s really essentially why I’m ahead, on top of working with Brit working with this training staff and Luke [Miller]. I just show up and control what I can control healthy. Trying to stay healthy. Feels good. Yeah just trying to push the energy and make sure I continue to get better.”

Kaiir Elam striving to find consistency in fresh start with Cowboys – Tommy Yarrish, DallasCowboys.com

The Cowboys’ new corner is looking to turn the corner in his career.

After being traded to the Cowboys in March, cornerback Kaiir Elam has kept his head down and gone to work with his new team in Dallas ahead of his fourth NFL season with a much-needed fresh start.

“I feel like the energy here is something I’ve never been a part of,” Elam said. “I love the enthusiasm, and also I would just say the energy from the coaching staff, they actually make you feel like they care, and that’s something that’s very exciting.”

In the media’s viewing of the Cowboys’ OTAs on Tuesday, Elam stood out amongst the cornerbacks with several PBUs while running with the first team defense. With Trevon Diggs and third-round pick Shavon Revel Jr. recovering from major injuries, Elam has an opportunity to step into a big role for Dallas’ defense in his first year with the team.

First, he wants to prove his consistency on a daily basis to himself, his teammates and the Cowboys’ coaching staff.

“I was just blessed to come here, I don’t really have too many huge expectations that I shout out loud,” Elam said. “I just try to be a consistent day every day. When my teammates and my coaching staff see the film, I want them to see a consistent dog every day.”

Elam’s three seasons in Buffalo were full of highs and lows throughout the process, and in Dallas, the coaching staff has made him feel more compelled to ensure everything is correct on the field and in the classroom.

“I thought it was a pretty smooth transition, they made it super, not easy, but easier to transition because a lot of people were willing to help,” Elam said. “With the coaching staff having great energy and enthusiasm, I felt eager to ask questions, so I was just appreciative of that.”

‘That’s not even true’ – George Pickens fires back at popular narrative with simple message after first practices with Cowboys – Mauricio Rodriguez, AtoZSports.com

Pickens is out to prove the naysayers wrong in Dallas.

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver George Pickens is on a mission to fight back the narrative that he’s a locker room problem.

At Pittsburgh, his playmaking abilities were matched with emotional outbursts and work ethic question marks, including tardiness and even holding up flights.

When the Cowboys traded a third round draft pick for him, they did so aware of that risk and in the hopes of the football elements outweighing such worries.

n Pickens’ eyes, however, the narrative has run amok. Asked about what people don’t know about him, the new Cowboys wide receiver expected to be a “co-one” to CeeDee Lamb described himself as a chill individual.

“I’m actually like a chill guy,” Pickens told reporters on Tuesday. “There’s a big phase of a tornado that’s not even true. I’m a chill guy and I just love to work.”

When talking to the media, Pickens indeed appeared like a chill guy. He was well-mannered with the media. Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer recently praised him for his work and focus in the meeting room.

However, Pickens will have to prove it on the field and during the grind of the regular season, when wins and losses are being discussed daily. Throughout his first three years in the league, he hasn’t exactly been a “chill guy.”

Cowboys, along with NFC East, to appear on in-season edition of HBO Hard Knocks – MLenix84, BloggingTheBoys.com

The NFC East will have all eyes on them, as usual, during the season on Hard Knocks.

The Dallas Cowboys have received a lot of positive buzz these days after a successful draft and trading for wide receiver George Pickens. On Wednesday, something else was added to their 2025 itinerary. It was announced that the Cowboys and the entire NFC East will be featured on the in-season edition of HBO’s Hard Knocks in December. The Buffalo Bills will appear on the hit series during the summer.

The Cowboys are no stranger to Hard Knocks. The show gives fans an inside look at the team but in the past has shown some figures in unflattering light. Brian Schottenheimer will have to figure out how to navigate these waters in his first year as a head coach, adding to the pressure of his inaugural year.

The rest of the NFC East will be joining the Cowboys, and with the World Champion Eagles, and the renewed Commanders on board, HBO will have plenty of storylines to follow.
