The competition for the main wide receivers spot in Green Bay Packers will be tight and Matthew Golden is ready to vie for it. Especially now that he just signed a contract that put him above everyone else in terms of earnings.

The Packers announced that they made Golden officially part of the team after the two parties agreed on a four-year deal worth $17,575,300. He will also receive a $9,422,056 as a signing bonus.
He will still compete for the position against the likes Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs, and Malik Heath for the position. He has to because the team would want to get their money’s worth on their 23rd pick.
Golden is currently the highest paid among the pass catchers in the team in terms of average annual value.

Matthew Golden must deliver
Golden joined the team from the 2025 NBA draft with significant hype and of course, good amount of pressure. He is the first wide receiver the team picked in the first round since 2001.
He also arrived at a time when the wide receiver corps is being highlighted, with some saying it can still improve for the Packers.
Good thing for him, he got veterans that are all ready to give him a lift. One of them is main quarterback Jordan Love who sent him a text after the news of his selection.

Another is Reed who according to passing game coordinator Jason Vrable is helping their rookies. Reed is currently one of many WRs campaigning for a second contract.
“I really want to commend him because he’s standing behind Matthew Golden right now helping him out with every single play. He’s going over with Mecole Hardman, who just got here, and he’s the one guy right now that I feel – all our guys, the brotherhood is strong right now – but he is like, ‘I’m going out of my way,’ because he is a natural leader, and he always has been.”
As for the 23rd first round pick himself, he is ready for the pro ranks. He said is extra motivated to play the game.
“Whenever I’m on the field, that’s when I feel great,” Golden said. “I feel like nothing is stopping me from where I’m going, and I can just focus on football. It’s definitely something that’s keeping me motivated and keeping me grinding.”
