Mets Fans' Frustration With Juan Soto Beginning To Boil Over After He Failed To Hustle To First Amid Poor Series Vs. Yankees

Juan Soto’s career with the New York Mets has gotten off to an uneven start. While his team are one of the best in baseball, Soto himself has had a middling start to the campaign, as he’s batting .246 with eight home runs and 21 RBIs.

While New York Mets fans have been patient with Juan Soto thus far, that patience began to be tested over the weekend as Soto struggled against his former team, the New York Yankees.

Soto appeared to commit a far worse sin than struggling out of the plate, however, as he also appeared not to hustle out of the box on what could’ve been a single in the top of the 8th with the game tied 2-2. In the bottom of that inning, the Mets would give up six runs, ultimately losing 8-2.

In addition to the apparent lack of hustle out of the box, Soto went 1-for-10 in the three-game Subway Series against the Bronx Bombers.

“How the fuck do you not hustle here? Thats terrible,” tweeted one frustrated Mets fan.

“I said it 3 weeks ago. He doesn’t hustle out of the box. Plays like a weekend softball player,” another fan replied.

“I said the same exact thing, and this isn’t the first time. Seems he rarely, if ever, hustles on a groundball. I’m starting to see a little of Cespedes in Juan. Just a little bit,” a third chimed in.

“He embraced it. He knew what was coming and he didn’t change, even though (Sunday) was pretty much the only game that we didn’t see results. The past couple of games, he was on base half of the at-bats, a couple of walks, hitting balls over 100, you just got to give credit to their pitching staff, especially a guy like (Max) Fried today,” Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said of Soto’s performance in the series.

The Mets will begin a three-game series against the Boston Red Sox tonight, while the Yankees begin a series against the Texas Rangers tomorrow.
