OSS: Yukon Cornelius walks it off!
Three up:
- Justin Turner finally got his first extra base hit of the year, and it was a big one. Turner’s one-out, 2 RBI double in the bottom of the ninth was the game winner. I groaned when I realized he was coming up, but with one out I was hoping for a savvy veteran RBI ground out or sac fly to tie the game. Glad to be wrong! Bonus shoutout to Nico for easily scoring from first on the play.
- PCA hit a loooong bomb to right in the bottom of the third, and now leads the Cubs in home runs.
- I’ll hand it to Ryan Pressly, who has had “a few” struggles of late, but came into a dirty inning in this one with the bases clogged and managed to clean up the inning with a strikeout of Stowers, who homered earlier in the game.
Three down:
- It was a rough one for Moises Ballesteros’s debut. Situation-wise, he was certainly thrown in the fire here. He GIDP with the bases clogged in his second MLB PA, and almost hit into another one during the Cubs rally in the ninth. At least he gets to remember the W, I suspect the rest will be washed away (dying laughing). Hopefully he’ll look better with out the extra adrenaline later this week.
- It was Julian Merryweather’s turn in the bullpen whack-a-mole console. Struggled early, righted things a bit, then fell out of steam as his pitch count went up. Bleh.
- not gonna do another one here after this fun win, enjoy the header pic of PCA with Justin Turner and kiddo instead
Next up: The Cubs go for the sweep with Jameson Taillon on the mound, facing lefty Ryan Weathers at 6:40 CT.
