UPDATE: The Dallas Cowboys have inked 5th-round pick RB Jaydon Blue to a 4-year, $4.6M rookie contract, featuring a $427K signing bonus

Another Texas Longhorn is off the 2025 NFL Draft board and they aren’t going very far from Austin.

Running back Jaydon Blue was selected in the fifth round, 149th overall, by the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday afternoon.

The Houston native is the 14th running back taken in the draft.

The junior finished his 2024 season with eight touchdowns and 730 yards on 137 carries, averaging 8.4 yards.

Blue was a four-star prospect coming out of Klein Cain High School, according to 247sports. He was the 18th-rated running back in Texas.

Jaydon Blue scouting report

Strengths: Solid running back size, good receiver out of backfield, speed to score on any play, highly efficient.

Weaknesses: Lacks experience, has been productive in only one out of three years in college, just five starts with Longhorns, issues with ball protection.

What our reporter noticed: Averaged 83.3 yards rushing in games in which he had double-digit carries. Showed outstanding versatility in catching 42 passes for 368 yards and six receiving touchdowns to go with 730 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on the ground. Has produced when called upon to take on bigger role, but productivity cut into due to emergence of Quintrevion Wisner and fumbling issues.

NFL player comps: Chase Brown, Cincinnati Bengals; Alvin Kamara, New Orleans Saints; James Cook, Buffalo Bills
