Latest Tyreek Hill Injury Surprise Crushes All Trade Discussion

Former Kansas City Chiefs star Tyreek Hill is in the news yet again, and this time it has more to do with his health than any rumors concerning his tenure with the Miami Dolphins potentially coming to an end.

Wednesday afternoon, Hill shared an image from his Snapchat account with the caption “Mission Successful” included. The All-Pro wide receiver had clearly just undergone a second procedure on the injured wrist that he initially had surgery on back in February.

Unless this second procedure was the byproduct of a setback in his rehab, Hill should still be ready to go come training camp, as Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel previously stated. That being said, thanks largely to his own comments, Hill’s status moving forward in Miami is anything but certain.

As Chiefs fans will remember, Hill opened the door for any and all speculation regarding his future in the NFL with the comments he made to the media following Miami’s season coming to an end.

“I don’t even know, bro,” Hill said, via Alain Poupart of Miami Dolphins on SI. “This is my first time I haven’t been in the playoffs. I mean for me, like I said, man, I just gotta do what’s best for me and my family, dawg. If that’s here, or wherever the case may be, man, I’m going to open the door for myself, dawg. I’m opening the door. Like, I’m out, man. You know, so, it was great playing here, but, you know, at the end of the day, bro, I gotta do what’s best for, you know, for my career, and you know, what’s best … because I’m too much of a competitor to be, you know, just out there.”

Consistently contending for a championship is something that Hill got used to during his tenure in Kansas City. That is simply what the Chiefs have done since Patrick Mahomes took over under center. Hill’s desire to compete at the highest level, coupled with his recent comments concerning Mahomes and his place among the league’s elite quarterbacks, should not make Chiefs fans hopeful for a reunion, however.

For a variety of reasons, Hill returning to Kansas City at this stage of his career should be a nonstarter for the Chiefs. The veteran wide receiver is on the wrong side of 30 years old and is coming off of one of the worst 17-game stretches of his career following his performance during the 2024 campaign. When you add in everything off of the field that Hill has dealt with over the years, the juice just isn’t worth the squeeze for Kansas City.

Hopefully Hill is able to return from this wrist injury and have a productive career from here on out. I wouldn’t bank on seeing Mahomes dial up any more passes to Hill anytime soon though, despite what Hill had to say about Mahomes being one of the greats in the game today.
