49ers sign WR to the practice squad; open Yetur Gross-Matos’s practice window

The San Francisco 49ers announced a few transactions on Wednesday afternoon. The trade for former Houston Texans defensive tackle Khalil Davis is official.

The team also officially announced safety Tashaun Gipson Sr. to the practice squad. Additionally, wide receiver Russell Gage was added to the practice squad. Gage did not play in the NFL in 2023. He did play 573 snaps in 2022 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he had 51 receptions and 426 yards. Could the 49ers be trying to pry any info possible out of Gage about their Week 10 opponent?

The corresponding move after signing Gauge was to release wide receiver Malik Turner from the practice squad.

The Niners opened Yetur Gross-Matos’s practice window. In early October, it was expected that Gross-Matos could miss up to two months after having knee surgery. There’s no guarantee that Gross-Matos will suit up this Sunday, but he was working on the side of practice this past Monday — a sign his return is imminent.
