he Boston Red Sox have a few big decisions to make this season. A lot of their decisions revolve around the trade market and who the Red Sox should add to push for a World Series title.
With the Red Sox likely eyeing huge names like Sandy Alcántara or Dylan Cease at the trade deadline, they’re going to need to be prepared to cut ties with a few top names.
Jay Pritchard of Heavy on MLB recently predicted the Red Sox would cut ties with young slugger Triston Casas in a blockbuster trade this season.
“Casas may be a walking quote machine and Netflix fan favorite, but behind the scenes, the patience seems to be wearing thin,” Pritchard wrote. “(Talk Sox’s Alex) Mayes doesn’t sugarcoat it: ‘It’s become pretty clear that he likely isn’t long for the Boston Red Sox.’
“Add in his struggles against left-handed pitching and the front office’s need for more arms, and Casas is almost screaming to be used in a blockbuster deal — especially with Miami still rumored to be lurking. Casas’ 2025 slump remains a hot topic on social media.”
Casas likely isn’t the first name the Red Sox will toss around in a trade, but he could be the centerpiece in a trade package to land a superstar. This would allow Rafael Devers to slot in as the everyday first baseman.
Trading the young slugger would hurt the future of the team, but Boston has so much infield talent that it wouldn’t be a huge problem if it could net an ace like Alcántara or Cease.
