Garrett Crochet Praises Alex Bregman For This ‘Very Unique Skill’

Make that nine in a row for Red Sox star Alex Bregman.Bregman extended his hit streak in Boston’s series-opening win in Toronto on Tuesday night. The veteran third baseman collected three knocks at Rogers Centre, where he smacked one of the visitors’ five home runs on the evening against the Blue Jays.

Plagued by slow starts in the past, Bregman flipped the script in his first month with the Red Sox. The two-time World Series champion currently leads the club in most major hitting categories, including average (.331), hits (40), RBIs (23) and home runs (six). The torrid pace at the place continues to impress teammates, who watched Bregman log 10 multi-hit games in April.

“Something that he does that not a lot of people in the league do (is to be) totally OK with giving the other pitcher a free strike and then still put together a quality at-bat about every time,” Garrett Crochet told reporters Tuesday, per The Boston Globe. “I think that’s a very unique skill that he (has). The way that he looks at hitting in general and even looks at pitching, it’s helped out the entire team.”

Bregman’s penchant to lead by example seemingly was one of the big reasons why the Red Sox were so motivated to sign the 31-year-old over the offseason. The investment paid dividends immediately, as Bregman was one of the steadying forces for Boston when it periodically dealt with early season woes.

Should Bregman help lead the Red Sox to another victory Wednesday, it will mark the first time this year that Boston reached four games above .500. NESN’s full coverage of the middle game begins at 6 p.m. ET, but fans won’t want to miss Bregman’s episode of “The Mindset,” which airs at 5:30 p.m. ET.
