Chiefs 2025 draft class earns rave reviews from NFL insiders

The 2025 NFL Draft is now in the books, and it’s time to reflect on the players added to your favorite team. There is a long stretch between the draft and the start of training camp that will allow for in-depth film reviews and analysis of these players and how their new team may utilize them. However, before we get to those in-depth discussions, it’s time for the annual tradition you love to hate: draft grades.

Yes, we all know they are silly. They are basically gut reactions to what teams did, based on the author’s own opinion of which players are better than others and what they think each team needs. Once training camp, preseason games, and eventually the regular season start, and we actually see which of these players can really play, these grades are completely forgotten. But until then, we all want to know how people think our favorite team did. It’s only natural after all the time we spend looking into who they should draft.

Before we get to what the national NFL media thinks of the Kanas City Chiefs draft class, I encourage you to read the draft grades by our own Matt Conner. The national media sometimes doesn’t have as good of pulse of what a team needs or what players best fit what the team does, so checking out grades by people that really know the Chiefs is always worth the read.

Now, without further ado, it’s time to see what the national media thinks of the Chiefs draft class.

Grading the Kanas City Chiefs 2025 NFL Draft Class

NFL.com – Chad Reuter

Chad Reuter didn’t have any real complaints about the Chiefs’ class. He especially liked the picks of Josh Simmons in the first round and Jalen Royals in the fourth round.

Grade: A-

Sports Illustrated – Matt Verderame

While he stopped just short of giving the Chiefs an “A” for this draft class, former Arrowhead Addict editor Matt Verderame did call KC’s draft class “one of the league’s best drafts this weekend.”

Grade: B+

Pro Football Focus

The Chiefs drafted several players who have good analytics in their profile, so it’s no surprise that Pro Football Focus was high on their class. While some have questioned the second round pick of Tennessee defensive tackle Omarr Norman-Lott, PFF called him “arguably the best true pass-rushing defensive tackle in this draft class”.

Grade: A

CBS Sports – Pete Prisco

CBS’s Pete Prisco is never short on opinions, but in this case, those opinions were very positive. He’s a fan of third-round pick Ashton Gillotte, the edge out of Louisville, saying that he was “one of my favorite players in this draft and was on my Better-Than team.”

Grade: A

CBS Sports – Chris Trapasso

Prisco’s CBS colleague Chris Trapasso, who covers the draft for CBS, was also a fan. He starts his review by saying, “General manager Brett Veach did work in this draft.”

Grade: A-

Fox Sports – Rob Rang

Fox Sports draft expert Rob Rang was another fan of the class. He went out of his way to compliment how the Chiefs approached this draft, saying, “The advanced degree of difficulty in drafting for a team that has relatively few holes cannot be overstated. Veach and the Chiefs handled it masterfully, turning in one of the best classes of this year’s draft.”

Grade: A-

Bleacher Report – Kristopher Knox

Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox didn’t dislike the class, but was a little more cautious with his praise, saying, “Did the Chiefs add a slew of immediate difference-makers? Probably not. However, Veach got some solid value early and late while adding several prospects who can develop into quality contributors down the road.”

Grade: B

ESPN – Mel Kiper Jr.

Finally, ESPN draft guru Mel Kiper Jr. took time out of his busy schedule of yelling at teams for passing on Shedeur Sanders to write mostly positive things about the Chiefs’ draft class. He did have one complaint, saying, “The only thing that kept Kansas City from the coveted ‘A’ grade was not taking a tight end. Travis Kelce is 35 years old now, so the Chiefs need an heir apparent.”

Grade: B+

If you were to average those letter grades out using a traditional 4.0 grading scale, that would give the Kansas City Chiefs the following draft GPA:

Chiefs 2025 Draft Class National Media GPA: 3.5875

That puts the Chiefs right on the fence between an “A-” and a “B+,” with a slight lean towards the “A-.” In other words, the Chiefs have received really good reviews for their 2025 draft class.

That doesn’t really mean anything once the pads come on in a few more months, but after all the debating, ranking, and mock drafting of the best draft prospects, it’s nice to know that most of the people who cover the NFL think the Chiefs added a good group of players.
