There wasn’t a wasted pick in a terrific draft. They had to do something to help the Keep Patrick Mahomes From Getting Popped cause, and they got a terrific offensive tackle in Ohio State’s Josh Simmons at the end of the first round. They needed to upgrade and get younger on the defensive line, and boom … boom. Big Tennessee defensive tackle Omarr Norman-Lott in the second, a steal in Louisville edge rusher Ashton Gillotte in they third, and it didn’t stop there.Cal cornerback Nohl Williams was a strong third round get, Utah State wide receiver Jalen Royals was a low-key monster of a pick in the fourth, and Oregon linebacker Jeffrey Bassa in the firth and versatile SMU back Brashard Smith in the seventh were great ideas.Obviously not all – or any – of these picks are guaranteed to fly, but in the game that is an NFL draft, Kansas City played it almost perfectly.

Royals could’ve gone in the second, and KC got him in the fourth. Gillette was a relatively cheap pass rushing grab in. the third, and on and on and on. What Went Wrong? To nitpick, coming up with a few more options for the offensive line would’ve been nice, and there’s no strength-in-numbers thing happening at any position. Seven picks, seven different positions – that usually doesn’t work.
