CLEVELAND — Top Red Sox prospect Roman Anthony fouled a ball off the top of his foot during Triple-A Worcester’s 8-3 loss to Syracuse on Friday.

He initially remained in the game but he came out after five innings.

“I read about it in the report,” Red Sox manager Alex Cora said before Boston’s doubleheader Saturday against the Guardians. “It was sore throughout the game so he came out.”

Cora added the Red Sox will “know more probably” later on.

The WooSox’ game Saturday already has been postponed due to rain. Worcester and Syracuse will play a doubleheader Sunday.

“I think he’s OK,” WooSox manager Chad Tracy told the media, including WEEI’s Rob Bradford after Friday’s game. “Obviously they are going to check him out. He fouled that ball off the top of his foot and kept going. In the middle of the game, it was stiffening up on him. We made the decision to precautionarily get him out there. They have to take a look. I think he’s day-to-day. He’ll be OK but they obviously have to look at him and see.”

Anthony, who Baseball America ranks the game’s No. 2 prospect, is 25-for-80 (.313) with a .451 on-base percentage, .588 slugging percentage, 1.039 OPS, five homers, five doubles, one triple, 14 RBIs, 21 runs, 21 walks and 21 strikeouts in 23 games for Worcester.
