Patrick Mahomes Shares Instant Reaction to Chiefs’ 1st-Round Pick

The Kansas City Chiefs came into the offseason with a clear plan. Patrick Mahomes was thrown around to the tune of six sacks in a Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, making the offensive line the No. 1 priority.

The Chiefs struck first by placing the franchise tag on Trey Smith and trading Joe Thuney to the Chicago Bears. Jaylon Moore received a two-year, $30 million contract in free agency and Kansas City added one more piece to the offensive line when they were on the clock with the 32nd overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Patrick Mahomes Gives Chiefs First-Round Pick Josh Simmons Stamp of Approval

The Chiefs selected Ohio State offensive tackle Josh Simmons in the first round of the draft on Thursday night. The starting left tackle for the national championship team for the Buckeyes, Simmons was a projected first-round pick at the beginning of the season before suffering a torn patellar tendon last October.

Head coach Andy Reid delivered a positive update on Thursday night, saying he expects Simmons to be ready for training camp. But the reaction of Mahomes should excite Chiefs fans as he posted his reaction on his X account.

Mahomes has a reason to be excited. According to Pro Football Focus, Simmons allowed 40 quarterback pressures on 1,005 pass-blocking snaps during his time with the Buckeyes. He also was off to a great start last season, allowing just one pressure on 158 pass-blocking snaps before the injury.

Simmons figures to be part of a rebuilt offensive line that still features Smith, center Creed Humphrey and right tackle Jawaan Taylor. While there are questions at left guard, the Chiefs still have eight selections remaining in the draft to fill that hole.

That should make Mahomes very happy and ready to lead Kansas City in 2025.
