Patrick Mahomes is enjoying his shorter ‘do.

The Chiefs quarterback, 29, thinks he looks “way better now” after getting his hair cut, he said during a press conference with media that Fox 4 Kansas City’s Rob Collins shared on X.

“I’ve wanted to do it for a while but it was kind of one of those superstitions,” said Mahomes. “I kept winning the Super Bowl, which is a good thing, but I didn’t want to cut the hair while I was doing it.”

The NFL star said he told “everybody” on the Chiefs last season that he was planning on cutting his hair, regardless of their outcome in the 2025 Super Bowl.

“I had told everybody during the season that win or lose, if we win three in a row, or we lose, I’m getting the hair cut,” Mahomes said, adding he had had “enough” of his longer locks.

Now that he’s sporting a new style, Mahomes is glad he switched it up. “I’m very excited, like, I’ve looked at some videos from last year and I can’t believe the guys let me keep that nappy hair for so long,” he told Collins.

The shorter hair is here to stay, according to the quarterback. “I look way better now with the short hair so, I’ll be keeping this going forward,” he said.

Mahomes has been enjoying some downtime this NFL off-season with wife Brittany and their children: daughter Sterling, 4, son Bronze, 2, and newborn daughter Golden, 3 months. On April 10, the couple was spotted sitting courtside at the Dallas Maverick’s game against the Lakers.

Most recently, the family gave fans a look inside their Easter celebrations on Sunday, April 20. Brittany, 29, shared a carousel of the family’s Easter activities, which included an egg hunt and a full family photo. “He is Risen🙏🏻✝️ Happy Easter🤍,” Brittany wrote in her caption.

The Chiefs star is also hard at work on the Kansas City-based steakhouse he’s opening with friend and teammate Travis Kelce. The restaurant, called 1587 Prime, will open this summer ahead of the NFL season, PEOPLE learned earlier this month.

The new restaurant will sit inside the sleek Loews Kansas City Hotel and will feature “multi-sensory dining aspects” as well as “subtle nods” to the players themselves — starting with the name, 1857, which is a combination of their jersey numbers.
