Patrick Mahomes Reveals Drastic Change Spurred by Chiefs’ Super Bowl Loss

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes had arguably one of his worst performances of the 2024 season in his team’s 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans back in February.

The two-time MVP finished with 257 yards passing, three touchdowns, and two interceptions, but the final stats don’t tell the whole story. Mahomes completed just 6 of 14 passes for 33 yards and two interceptions with a 10.7 passer rating in the first half that led to a 24-0 Eagles lead.

One of this interceptions was a 38-yard Cooper DeJean pick-6 that gave Philadelphia its first touchdown of the game.

The loss stung a little more for the Chiefs as they fell one win shy of becoming the first franchise in NFL history to win three straight Super Bowl titles.

Several players, including star tight end Travis Kelce, took extended vacations to cope with the loss, while Mahomes chose a different grieving strategy.

The 29-year-old signal-caller was the talk of social media at the end of February when he showed up to a Texas Tech-Houston basketball game sporting a new clean-cut look, which he said was, in part, to get rid of the bad Super Bowl memories.

“I’ve wanted to do it for a while, but it was kind of one of those superstitions — I kept winning the Super Bowl, which is a good thing, but I don’t want to cut the hair while I was doing it,” Mahomes told reporters. “So, I told everybody during the season, win or lose, if we win three in a row, or if we lose, I’m getting a haircut. Like, that’s enough.

“I’m very excited. I looked at some videos from last year and I can’t believe all you guys let me keep that nappy hair for so long. I look way better now with the short hair, so I’ll be keeping this going forward.”

For years, Mahomes sported a curly, mohawk-style hairdo with a fade on the sides.

The look became synonymous with his personal brand that when Nebraska quarterback Dylan Raiola began wearing his hair in a similar fashion, many fans accused him of trying to rip off Mahomes.

But based on his comments on Wednesday, it seems like Mahomes’ new look is here to stay.
