While nearly all attention is being paid to Boston Red Sox top prospect Roman Anthony and when he will get promoted to the big leagues, Marcelo Mayer continues to remind everyone he’s quite an asset, too.

And Red Sox fans won’t be able to take their eyes off the titanic blast he hit Wednesday afternoon for Triple-A Worcester.

Mayer showcased his terrific power in the bottom of the first inning when he demolished a fastball from Syracuse Mets right-hander Dom Hamel to deep center field. The two-run homer from Mayer traveled an estimated 445 feet, according to Worcester Telegram and Gazette’s Tommy Cassell. You can watch the jaw-dropping homer on repeat here.

The round-tripper from Mayer continued an impressive hot streak from the 22-year-old shortstop, who is ranked as the 11th-best prospect in the sport by MLB Pipeline. He now has four homers and 16 RBIs over the last six games.

Mayer entered Wednesday slashing .263/.306/.781 over the first 19 games of his career at the Triple-A level. The 2021 fourth-overall pick was promoted to Worcester last August alongside Anthony and Kyle Teel, who was traded to the Chicago White Sox in the Garrett Crochet deal, but didn’t appear in any games due to lingering injuries.

Mayer sure looks healthy now with the homers he is hitting so far this season. It’s tough to picture when he could make his MLB debut since the Red Sox already have Trevor Story and Alex Bregman occupying the left side of their infield and Kristian Campbell manning second base.

But if Mayer keeps crushing baseballs out of ballparks, the Red Sox are going to have to figure out a way to get him into their lineup.
