When the Miami Marlins pulled the trigger on a trade to send franchise icon Jazz Chisholm Jr to the New York Yankees, they were very pleased with the influx of young prospects sent in the deal. The most highly touted prospect that they got in the deal was catcher Agustin Ramirez, then the Yankees’ No. 19 prospect. Ramirez soared up Miami’s top prospect ranking, becoming the No. 4 prospect in the system after a strong 2024 season.
Prior to Monday’s 6-3 win, Ramirez was called up to kickstart the Marlins’ youth movement, both making a difference in Miami’s 6-3 win over Cincinnati. In his first two MLB games, Ramirez has not only excelled defensively but etched his name in the history books with his hot start at the plate. The @Marlins’ Agustín Ramírez in 2 games in the majors:

Not only has Ramirez posted some tremendous numbers in his first two MLB games, but he was instrumental in former top prospect Max Meyer’s 14-strikeout performance Monday that placed Meyer in elite company. After scorching a 111 mph double Tuesday, Ramirez is 5-for-6 with an OPS of 2.208 in his first two games with Miami.
Ramirez’s stint in the majors was initially viewed as a brief chance to show the team what kind of player he could be while Nick Fortes and Rob Brantly are on the injured list, but he could become the Marlins’ everyday catcher in no time if he keeps up this performance.
