Travis Kelce is not getting any younger. Last season was in fact one of the poorest in the NFL as he failed to reach 1,000 yards receiving, ending with 823 yards, which was his lowest output since his rookie season.
It is conceivable the Kansas Chiefs could look to draft a replacement as Kelce, 35, has been sniffing around the retirement issue. He announced he was coming back this season, but next season still remains a mystery. … with speculation that he might play one more year before riding off into the entertainment world sunset with pop-star sweetheart Taylor Swift.
In the meantime … Tyler Warren is the top tight end in this week’s NFL Draft. He will not be around when the Chiefs are scheduled to select, at slot No. 31. A trade has been proposed by one NFL writer in which the Chiefs trade up with the San Francisco 49ers and move up to try and grab Warren at 11. “The Kansas City Chiefs trade up 20 selections and grab their heir apparent to Travis Kelce, taking Tyler Warren from Penn State,” said NFL writer Lou Scataglia in his prediction. “This could be a huge move to keep KC atop the AFC West.”
Warren has 1,233 receiving yards last season as a college superstar. He is a threat from any place on the field and would fit in nicely with Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and head coach Andy Reid. Warren is also a threat out of the backfield as he had four rushing touchdowns and 218 yards on the ground last season.
Drafting Warren in the first round would still allow the Chiefs to address their offensive line in the latter rounds of the draft and would for one season at least give KC a two-headed monster at tight end … until Travis opts to move along.
