The Boston Red Sox can’t be left out when talking about Cam Booser’s journey to MLB. The relief pitcher made his long-awaited big-league debut in 2024 after initially retiring in 2017.

Now with the Chicago White Sox after Boston traded him in December for minor league right-hander Yhoiker Fajardo, Booser is grateful the Red Sox allowed him to fulfill a dream he once thought was out of reach.

“Last year they gave me an opportunity at 31 years old to make my dream come true,” Booser said told reporters this weekend at Fenway Park, via The Chicago Tribune’s Lamond Pope. “They did what they needed to do in the offseason. I have nothing but respect for (Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig) Breslow and that staff. And that organization. They gave me an opportunity to make my dream come true.”

Booser — who dealt with several injuries and a suspension while in the Minnesota Twins’ system — spent nine seasons in the minor leagues before he retired. He worked a construction job for four years before breaking back into baseball.

Booser made his MLB debut at 31 years old with the Red Sox. Prior to signing with Boston and beginning last year with the Worcester Red Sox, the Booser never pitched above the High-A level.

The White Sox used Booser twice through Chicago’s first three games in its four-game set against the Red Sox. In Saturday’s appearance, Booser walked one and struck out a batter in one inning of work before he pitched a scoreless inning in Sunday’s win over his former team.
